This spicy marinated tofu is truly addicting. Who doesn’t love spicy food! Marinating tofu or tempeh is one of the most flexible and easiest way to make food with hectic lifestyle. When marinating tofu or tempeh to bake or grill, you should marinate it for at least 30 minutes, but longer is better and overnight is the best. When tofu is cooked in the marinade, it is not just the BLAND tofu. The marinated tofu is just too delicious, and perfect meal when served with rice or quinoa.
The tofu prep before marinating is very important. Whenever I make tofu, people ask me how do you eat that stuff? Its soggy and bland. It is very important that you get extra firm tofu and press it to remove excess water. I have briefly explained how to remove excess water in previous posts. I haven’t explained much in detail because I don’t want you guys to be like, ” Duh, thanks, I know that.” I do want people to understand the importance because I believe many don’t eat tofu because they don’t know how to cook it right.
I think the best way to press tofu is with a tofu press, you can buy it on amazon or any home goods store. But pressing tofu is very self-explanatory and you don’t really need the tofu press. I don’t have tofu press and these are the steps I follow:
You want to take three to four paper towel and fold them in half. Please one of the folded towels on a cutting board or flat serving plate. Take the tofu out of package, drain off the water, and cover it inside the paper towel. Place something heavy on top- either a place, or a skillet. I usually put additional canned goods evenly. I usually let it sit for 1 hour and change out the paper towels and do it all over again for another hour. It is completely worth it. When all the excess water is gone, tofu absorbs the flavors very well and cooks faster (more crispier).
1 pack Nasoya organic extra firm tofu
2 tbsp soya sauce
1 tbsp hot chili paste
1 tbsp honey
2 cloves garlic chopped
1 tsp olive oil
Whisk together all the ingredients. After removing excess water tom tofu, cut them into cubes.
Add tofu cubes in the marinate, mix it well and set it covered over night.
In a medium skillet add some olive oil and add your tofu pieces. Cook until all sides are brown/crispy.
You can also bake it. Preheat oven to 400F. Transfer the tofu cubes into a baking sheet after lining with parchment paper. Bake for 40 minutes, keep flipping tofu every 10 minutes to cook all the sides. Serve hot with fried rice, salad or wraps.
