Spicy Tofu Scramble ( Tofu Bhurji)


I agree that I have been little irregular in posting new recipes off late. Its been little crazy this week and the weather doesn’t make it any better. You might be thinking whats Bhurji? Bhurji is the indian version of scramble. In india, egg bhurji and paneer bhurji are two famous fast food snacks served in many restaurants almost all over india. I have had egg and paneer bhurji so many times, so I decided to switch it up with tofu to make it little healthier. As you can tell I use a lot of tofu in my cooking. It is a versatile ingredient. It is high in protein and calcium and well known for its ability to absorb new flavors through spices and marinades.

This dish is a perfect starter or you can serve it with roti/tortilla. Sometimes I also make lettuce wraps with this filling and its delicious. It makes a great lunch and quite filling breakfast or post workout meal.


1 block of firm tofu

1 tbsp olive oil

1 medium chopped onion

1 tomato, finely chopped

1/2 green bell pepper chopped

2 green chillies, finely chopped

2 tsp fresh ginger-garlic paste

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp red chili powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

1/2 tsp coriander-cumin powder

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp mustered seeds

salt to taste

lemon or lime wedges


Heat the oil and add mustered-cumin seeds. Let them sizzle and add in the chopped green chillies, ginger-garlic paste, and add chopped onions. Sauté  for a couple of minutes. Add tomatoes and bell pepper and sauté for approximately 3-4 minutes. Crumble or shred the tofu and add in the pan. Add all your seasonings and let the flavors meld for approximately 5 minutes. Serve tofu bhurji hot with some bread, tortilla or in lettuce wraps.
